The South African National Building Standards 10400 came into force in 2010; it has changed fire safety requirements and affects ALL South African organisations replacing over 100 separate pieces of fire safety legislation.

Where previously the Fire Department would provide assistance to your companies' fire safety arrangements and issue a fire certificate, this is no longer valid. Owners, employers and managers are now deemed responsible for adequate safety within their premises.

The smoke ventilation system is part of the overall fire safety strategy and under the building legislation and the responsible person must ensure that equipment and devices are maintained in efficient working order and in good repair to safeguard the relevant persons within the building.

196 deaths occurred after being overcome by gases and smoke in 2006 (40% of all deaths)

(UK Stats, Office for National Statistics 2006)

Drawing on 58 years of experience and the latest technologies, Robertson Ventilation Industries provides service level agreements that are unsurpassed in terms of quality and compliance that meet international standard and best practice.

The smoke control system provides a fundamental element of the fire design strategy. It is essential that measures are taken to ensure its continued reliability in the event of a fire.

Maintenance is vital; by entering into a preventative maintenance/service level agreement you are fulfilling your obligation under the SANS 10400: Part T legislation and will ensure that your system performs as intended.

Maintenance and regular checks are required under the SANS 10400: Part T and should be recorded within your building records.

As one of South Africa's largest smoke ventilation companies, many clients recognise the benefits of instructing RVI to both install and maintain their sites, providing continuity of service.
